RIDE THE WESTERN BAYS SIDE OF LAKE TAUPŌ
Remote, rugged and spectacular, the Waihaha–Waihora section is one of the standout rides of the Great Lake Trail.
Your adventure begins with a road transfer to Waihaha Bridge, where you'll set off on a 31 km ride through native bush, rocky gullies and remote western bays, with incredible views across Lake Taupō appearing along the way.
This is the remote side of the Great Lake Trail — a Grade 3 intermediate ride with enough climbing, technical sections and changing terrain to keep things interesting.
And the finish is what makes this ride really special.
There is no road waiting for you at Waihora Bay.
Instead, you'll ride right down to the edge of Lake Taupō, where your boat arrives to collect you for a scenic cruise back across the lake.
Along the way, take in secluded bays, dramatic cliffs and waterfalls that can only be properly appreciated from the water.

THE LOGISTICS
We take care of the hard part.
Bringing your own bike? Meet the FourB shuttle in Kinloch at 9:00am, where we’ll collect you and your bike and transfer you to Waihaha Bridge to begin your ride. Your day then finishes back at your vehicle.
Hiring a bike from FourB? Your adventure starts from our Taupō base at 8:30am, with your bike hire and transfer to the trail taken care of. We then collect you from the Kinloch Marina and transfer you back to our base.
At the end of your ride, meet the boat at Waihora Bay for a scenic transfer across Lake Taupō to Kinloch marina.
Bring your own bike or hire from us — we’ll organise the rest.
