MAKE A DAY OF IT — ORAKAU TO WHAKAIPO BAY
Want more than the shorter ride into Kinloch? Keep going and turn it into a full-day’s adventure.
Starting from the Orakau trailhead, you'll ride through native bush and volcanic terrain towards Kawakawa Bay, a secluded spot on the edge of Lake Taupō and the perfect place for a quick break.
From here, the trail climbs towards Codgers Rock, a favourite photo stop with spectacular views across the lake, before continuing into the lakeside village of Kinloch.
Park up the bikes, grab some lunch and enjoy a well-earned break before heading out for part two of your adventure.
From Kinloch, you'll join the W2K section of the Great Lake Trail, continuing through beautiful native bush, rolling terrain and changing lake views as you make your way towards Whakaipo Bay.
The standard ride is approximately 33 km and takes around 4 hours of riding, making this a fantastic full-day adventure.

Add the Headland Loop along the way for an extra 10 km of riding.
This takes your total distance to approximately 43 km and is a great option for riders who have the time, fitness and energy to explore more of the trail.

THE LOGISTICS
We take care of the transport so you can enjoy a true point-to-point ride.
Bringing your own bike? Meet the FourB shuttle at Whakaipo Bay road end 8.45am, where we'll collect you and your bike and transfer you to the Orakau trailhead.
From there, ride Orakau to Kinloch (K2K), stop for lunch, then continue along the W2K to Whakaipo Bay — finishing right back at your vehicle.
Hiring a bike from FourB? Start your day from our Taupō base 8.20am, where we'll get you set up with your bike before transferring you to the Orakau trailhead.
You'll then ride through Kinloch and on to Whakaipo Bay, where we'll collect you at aprox 3pm for your return transfer back to the FourB base.
